As I’m unable to travel anywhere foreign, I can still travel in my neighbourhood. I’ve never explored so much of my neighbourhood. I’m getting very sick of the same few blocks. But the upside is that I’ve made some great local discoveries. Not far from me is a tiny Vietnamese restaurant that is easy to miss (and apparently, I’ve missed it for years). It’s appearance isn’t fancy, but their food is so awesome that it has made me want to visit Vietnam.
So here is another dream destinations postcard, this time from Vietnam:
Here is the back:
Postcard caption:
“Saigon Hochiminh City Vietnam [I’ve never seen Ho Chi Minh spelled as one word]
The City People’s Committee (Town Hall)”
Postcard message:
“Hi Glen from Vietnam”
Normally, I like a bit more heft to the postcard message as I enjoy the message as much as the front image. But in this case, I was so grateful to get a postcard (from one of the Collection’s Grand Patrons) from Vietnam that I’m definitely not complaining. This is the first and only postcard I have from Vietnam.
Over the years, I’ve heard a lot about the great things to see in Vietnam. But lately the number one reason I want to go to Vietnam is for their bánh mì! If you haven’t tried bánh mì, you need to. They are one of my favourite foods ever – basically they are sandwiches on French baguettes with meat, fish, tofu, or eggs with pickled veggies and watercress. Over the years, bánh mì have grown in popularity in Ontario. I’ve had some delicious ones at various places, but the restaurant I mentioned on Gerrard Street has by far the best ones I’ve ever had! And they are only $4.50!
If the food there is this good, I can only imagine how great it would be in Vietnam! Hopefully, I’ll be able to visit one day and find out.
Finally, I would like to be complimented for not titling this post “Good Morning Vietnam”. I hate how journalists so often resort to such hackneyed headlines (even if I couldn’t resist saying it myself).
