Here’s another sample from my winter sojourn in the south. We spent only a short time in the island of St. Martin this time, but I found lots of good postcards (as well as going to I to an awesome Star Wars museum!)
I particularly like this postcard, below, as it captures a segment of the place’s history.
Here is the back of postcard which tells about the history pertaining to the front image.
“For Amsterdam, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
The cannons of Fort Amsterdam have witnessed many fierce battles between the Dutch and the Spanish, English and Portuguese navies. The island actually changed flags many times. In one such battle, Peter Stuyvesant, who later became Governor of New Amsterdam (now New York), lost his lag here. ”
