The City of Toronto has a current project centered on my favourite thing: postcards!
The installation presently in City Hall is called “Dear Toronto”.
People are invited to take a free postcard – there are several types to choose from – see below for 3 of them. They have a space to write a message on the front. (Front messages were the original place to write messages when postcards began (as the post office insisted the back side be used only for the address).
People are then invited to write a message to Toronto – of any topic or form they choose. Then they can place the postcards in a pattern to form the word Toronto on a mural – as seen in my photo at the beginning of this post.
Below is a photo of the postcard I wrote to the City along with other people’s:
I was so excited to see my own city having a postcard project. I’ve heard of a few other city postcard projects, but this is the first I have heard of one such as this. I hope the city saves these postcards after the exhibit ends – but if they don’t want the Deltiology Deity would happily add them to the Collection!
