It was fifty years ago today that Canada got it’s current flag. Prior to that we had a version with a prominent Union Jack, which was generic like many former British colonies’ flags. Check out my postcard with our old flag.
Our new flag is rather iconic and we’re rather fond of it.
So in honour of our 50th anniversary of our flag, below is an unsent postal card from Canada Post.
“The word peace is printed in our 2 official languages and 21 other lanaguages of Canada as identified by Statistics Canada 1996 Census.”
Our federal government has put together a short patriotic video of our flag:
The government, in a surprisingly hip move for them, has also started a campaign, Share your Moment with the Flag” using the hastags #flag50 and #drapeau50 to encourage Canadian’s to post photos of themselves with the flag.
Happy Flag Day!
