It’s summer here and people are travelling again, and that means MORE POSTCARDS FOR ME. Although I can never get enough to satisfy my deltiological addiction, here’s a great fix:
I have a bunch of postcards from North Carolina, but most of them are of beaches or lighthouse. I truly appreciate unique postcards such as this with unique, local colour. As it turns out, this postcard features actual moonshiners, Popcorn Sutton being particularly (in)famous, earning a NY Times article and Wikipedia page.
There’s more on the back side:
“North Carolina Moonshiners
Troy Cagle and Popcorn Sutton were historic moonshine makers and haulers in the hills of North Carolina. Out foxin’ the BIG law was a very important part of their business. In this picture they reenact a scene of their past.”
“Hi Glen. Having a fantastic time here in Pennsylvania. Heading towards the Finger Lakes for a great camping experience. Thought you might like to add this card to your collection.”
This postcard sure makes me have a craving for something a little stronger and liquid…
