Within a few moments the first long weekend with reasonably warm weather begins in Canada. Monday is a holiday in Canada, nominally Victoria Day, but really it’s just an excuse to get outdoors, light fireworks, and party!
Here’s a postcard from a place that knows how to have a good time (and fellow commonwealth country): Jamaica.
Jamaica also used to celebrate the British monarchy on the same date as Canada (calling it Empire Day). They’ve changed to holiday to Labour Day. I think we should rename and repurpose too, but as we already have a Labour Day (in September) I think a day to celebrate our country founder and first prime minister, John A. Macdonald we be a great idea.
Either way, the key point is to celebrate and outdoors (weather cooperating, I hope!)!
The postcard presents a rather stereotypical representation of Jamaica. But what are tourist postcards if not tacky and simplistic. And the pushpins in the top corner provide an interesting framing motif.
Here’s the back side, boring stamps and all:
“Ya Man (Greetings). I guess this postcard sums up Jamaica culture. so far it’s been great, really nice people, a little rain (first 3 days) but overall, really enjoyable. Hopefully my batteries will be all nice and charged up for work. Hope the job search is going ok. I’ll probably talk to you before you get this card. Take care.”
Party on this weekend!!
