Yesterday, I posted one of the most disquieting items in the Collection. A day after it arrived, another equally disquieting postcard arrived:
My kid takes ukulele lessons for God’s sake!!! I’ll never be able to look at a uke again without shuddering.
Here’s the backside:
“Jane, was wird geschehen? [I believe it translates as “Jane, what will happen?”] Thomas Hermanns als Taro Torsay”
“The Brighton Boy. I thought I sent this to you years ago, did I buy two? It’s very disturbing but at least he isn’t [unknown].”
I do not already have this item in the Collection. I’d remember it – this image is painfully seared into my mind!
From some brief googling, it appears that this is an image of the character Taro Torsay by the German comedian Thomas Hermanns. He had a comedy satire featuring this character in Germany, but why this postcard would be sold in Brighton (or made in the first place) is beyond me.
