It’s October now but we’ve been getting summer like weather here in Ontario, so this recent arrival is particularly fitting:
Ipperwash is in Lambton Shores on Lake Huron, near Grand Bend. This postcard is definitely from a simpler time. As the sender describes finding it “The postcards were from a beachside variety store that was likely there when the pictures were taken!”
Ipperwash is more recently remember as the site for a violent First Nations clash. The land that was appropriated from a local tribe for a military base in World War II and not returned until recently. It was later a popular provincial park, but is now closed pending its uncertain future. Read the article Ipperwash: Paradise lost, probably never to return.
Here’s the reverse side:
“I remember doing this at Sauble Beach but the cars were not so chic! P.S. Stayed at a fleabag motel not renovated since this time.”
The donor has a slew of old Ipperwash postcards so stay tuned…
