This postcard arrived a couple days ago:
I’m not much of a fan of the concept of monarchy and the Luxembourg royal family’s portrait is much better (as I blogged about).
But this postcard is topical, as the message relates:
“HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and HRH The Duke of Cambridge with their new son Prince George of Cambridge born on July 22nd at 4.24pm. They are leaving the Lindo wing of St. Mary’s Hospital, London the birthplace of HRH Prince William”
“! No life or postcard collection is complete without the first photo of baby George.”
Aside from the pop culture value of this specimen, it is also an interesting item for its placement of the caption. I can’t recall ever seeing a caption on the bottom right side of a postcard. In fact, I thought the right side was reserved for the postal service. You can even see the postal mark under the caption – no doubt disturbing the Royal Mail greatly. Despite lauding the royals on the front side, this postcard is subtly subversive!
