It’s been just over a year since my grandfather, Homer, passed away. As a kid I’d spend a good chunk of my summers with my grandma and grandpa in Clinton, Ontario. Grandpa always had the best stories, the worst jokes, and an amazing postcard collection.
Before he passed away, he gave me his postcard collection and his father’s collection. So in honour of Homer, here’s one of the postcards he received that perfectly sums up his sense of humour:
I’m not sure I get the postcard, but Homer did love Florida. I remember many memorable trips with the family there (none of which involved cows or pigs, however).
Here is the reverse side:
“Hi! (My Pens are out of ink). Having a good time, you wouldn’t know the area now. High rise apartment where you used to fish. Remember where you and [x] found the friendly pelican! Now it has 3 apartments about 20 stories high and all landscaped to water’s edge. Lots of vacancy in Fargo and all vacant in that area, only the trailer camps are full over in this area. Fort Myers areas was $8.00 per night to camp, so we came up to Seminole. Went to [unknown] city shopping yesterday.”
Thanks for the great memories – and postcards – Grandpa Homer!
