Thanks to one of the collection great patrons, I now have my first postcard from the great European nation of Luxembourg! And what an incredible specimen it is:
An odd postcard to represent Luxembourg as it’s not the greatest family portrait (and what’s with the hobby horse) and they are not even the royal family of Luxembourg. Prince Louis is the third son of the Grand Duke and apparently gave up all his (and his children’s) rights of succession to marry the commoner, Tessy. I don’t think European royalty should be punished for marrying commoners as frankly Europe’s royals can use the fresh blood and good looks.
Here’s the backside:
“LL.AA.RR. (Leurs Altesses Royales = Their Royal Highnesses) le Prince Louis, la Princesse Tessy, et les Princes Gabriel et Noah.”
“meng.post.lu Je creé mes timbres et carte postales” (I create my stamps and post cards)
“Greetings from Luxembourg. Not a whole lot going on here but man is it postcard gold, so hard to choose.”
Now that I have Luxembourg specimens (more to come, just wait – some are doozies!) it fits nicely with my small countries of the world postcards. I have a few from the Vatican (#1 smallest country), Monaco (including some I sent – #2 smallest), San Marino (but someone bought it and gave it to me, so it doesn’t really count – #5 smallest), Liechtenstein (a couple – #6), Malta (#11), and Grenada (ones I sent to other people, beautiful place BTW – #12). I most want Andorra now (#16) but I’ll happily take any, particularly any from the many small Pacific Ocean island countries (see list).
