Today is Bermuda Day, a national holiday of the island off the coast of North Carolina. Although a British Overseas Territory, Bermuda has its own rich culture and history. (It’s not part of the Caribbean, but shares historic and climate similarities to Caribbean islands.)
Bermuda is one of the best tropical island vacations I’ve had – even though it’s among the most expensive place I’ve been to (up their with Switzerland and Hong Kong). They have great beaches, historic sites, rum cocktails (“Rum Swizzles“), and scones. But one thing they don’t have is great postcards. This was the best I could find for my collection:
Here’s the reverse side (I sent this to myself) detailing my collector’s gripes:
“Come to Bermuda. The Isles of Beauty”
“I wanted a postcard of the Bermuda Triangle or at least some local sporting Bermuda shorts – but the postcards in this place are substandard (about 15 in total from end to end this is the most interesting one). Yes this place is quite wealthy, but if they can’t afford decent and/or tacky postcard then what good is that wealth?! I guess they spend it on the $60 to $70 pub lunches (which I jest not). Cheers.”
I’d love to go back to Bermuda (if only for the Rum Swizzles and scones) but will have to make do with enjoying these postcard memories. Happy Bermuda Day!
