It was 13 years ago today that O Magazine started. I liked Oprah Winfrey’s television show, so someone bought me a copy of her magazine. Not exactly a great mag, but it did have motivations postcards that I eagerly added to my collection.
Here’s my favourite of four that were included:
“Accept what people offer. Drink their milkshakes. Take their love. Wally Lamb, Author.”
Drink people’s milkshakes – words to live by! But Lamb should be safe and add “But don’t drink their Kool-Aid”.
Note how the font is coloured and bolded to highlight the key message “offer love“. This specimen is the postal equivalent of unwanted advice received by your ma followed by a warm hug.
The O cards are the only motivational postcards in my collection – or that I’ve seen. Oddly enough, people don’t seem inclined to buy and mail fine gems like this.
