It’s March Break and although kids are out of school and many are enjoying tropical getaways, I’m stuck here in front of my computer plugging away with no end in sight. No exotic getaways for us this year.
There’s some small comfort that others are similarly stuck in the cold drizzle of a Toronto March. A local cafe today tried to console everyone with a “Gilligan’s Island” theme day. They had Hawaiian decorations, Kona coffee, and pineapple desserts galore (the “Skipper scone” was delish). Yet as I mentioned to the cashier, it was only one year ago this week that I was enjoying the real thing with my family.
Here’s postcard proof from me in Hawaii:
The postcard’s flip side highlights the splendours of Hawaii I was enjoying this time last year:
After a 17-hour journey to get here we can hardly rest during our time in Honolulu. Not when there’s beaches to frolic in, mai tais to drink, and historic sites to see such as a royal palace of the Hawaiian monarchs, Obama’s highschool, Gilligan’s Island’s harbour and the hotel where the Bradys stayed!
Postcards do provide nostalgic mementos – a paper time machine. Sadly, this blog post and pineapple scones are a paltry substitute, but do provide a vicarious remembrance of the best March break ever!
