Some people collect postcards for the pretty pictures of vacation destinations. But postcards have many sides. And I like the messages on the back as much as the front. The postage stamps and cancellations stamps are also interesting. I also have a penchant for postcards that are bizarre or boring.
This postcard below is one of my favourites in my collection. Not for the cool destination (Venezuela) or pretty scenery…
But because of the message…
“Just wonderful weather”.
It is by far the most boring postcard message I’ve ever encountered. The person is in one of the most interesting and beautiful countries in the world – you’d think the scenery or culture would merit a mention. But no, it’s the weather that the sender finds most remarkable. Like the sender, I’m Canadian and I get that some warm weather in December (when the card was sent) can be greatly appreciated! But really, why go all the way to Venezuela for that?
When considered with the incredible scenery of the front and its tagline “Venezuela – The Adventure” the message, is just so inanely boring that I greatly treasure it!
